Three Local Nursing Students Receive Scholarship Awards from Brandywine Health Foundation

West Chester University School of Nursing students Brittany K. Scavello, Ashley Corigliano and Anna M. Nonnemacher (pictured fourth through sixth from left) were each presented with a $1,000 Cardiac Scholarship from the Brandywine Health Foundation. Also pictured left to right: Carolyn Sullivan, Nursing Director of the Brandywine Valley Cardiology’s Cardiac Rehab Center; Frances M. Sheehan, President & CEO of the Brandywine Health Foundation; Robin Garrett; MSN, RN, Dept. of Nursing at West Chester University; Jay Rooney; and Cardiac Rehab Scholarship Award founders William R. Keen, Jr., Esq. and Roger Brown (founder Louise DePedro not pictured). The nursing students received these special scholarships at a holiday reception held at the Brandywine Cardiac Rehab Center on December 7, 2011. Ms. Nonnemacher was also the recipient of the Marie Rooney Nursing Scholarship established in memory of Laura Marie Rooney, established by her husband Mr. Rooney and her daughters Celeste Gitthens and Yvette Contois.
Sheehan commented, “We are so pleased to invest in and assist local students like Brittany, Ashley and Anna in continuing their nursing education as they join one of the most highly regarded professions. I was struck by one of last year’s scholarship recipients who shared her thoughts with us, ‘Money is something that a lot of college students struggle with, and I am thankful that there are organizations such as the Brandywine Health Foundation to help deserving nursing students. I would like to thank the foundation again for the scholarships I received while attending West Chester University. They were helpful in more ways than one and got me where I am today.’”
The Cardiac Rehab Scholarship Fund was started nineteen years ago as a way to recognize the nursing staff at the Cardiac Rehab Center at Brandywine Hospital during the holiday season and has provided scholarships to 52 nursing students since its inception.
