Fall 2010 Grants
The Brandywine Health Foundation’s
principal and overriding goal is to support and strengthen
the system of safety net health providers for low income residents
in the Greater Coatesville Area. Thanks to the generosity of
the foundation’s donors and the return of the stock market,
during the fall of 2010, the foundation is able to open the
grantmaking process to agencies meeting the priorities listed
below. Priority is still given to those health providers in
the new Brandywine Center and the network of health agencies
collaborating with them to serve low-income residents in the
Greater Coatesville Area, and reducing racial and ethnic healthcare
disparities.
Applications for the Fall of 2010 are due in the foundation’s
offices by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 3rd. Successful applicants
will be notified of the foundation’s awards by October
31, 2010.

$425,000
in Grants Distributed to Twelve Chester County Agencies
The Brandywine Health Foundation is pleased to announce $425,000
in grant awards to twelve nonprofit agencies serving Coatesville
area residents. These grants are in addition to $400,000 in
funding for ChesPenn Health Services, this year’s portion
of a $2 million commitment made to that Brandywine Center agency
last year.
James H. Manning, Jr., Esq., Chair of the Brandywine Health
Foundation’s Grantmaking Committee, remarked, “the
economy requires that we step up to help those agencies with
a proven track record of quality services for the uninsured
and underinsured in our community. These are valuable organizations
serving an increasingly needy population at a time when funding
is tight. Thankfully the foundation’s generous supporters
enable us to focus on those groups with top quality staff and
programming that are having the greatest impact.”

Nursing Awards & Scholarships
The Brandywine Health Foundation seeks to address the critical
shortage of nurses by encouraging Chester County residents
to enter the field of nursing. To that end, eleven nursing
awards and scholarship funds benefiting students studying at
the CAT-Brandywine Practical Nursing Program and the Brandywine
School of Nursing have been available.
Because of the closing
of the Brandywine School of Nursing, the Cardiac Rehab Scholarship
and the Ethel Charlton Nursing Scholarships are now reserved
for Nursing students at West Chester University. Other
scholarships will be available to students there, as well as
at Immaculata.
