Funding Priorities and Guidelines
Grantmaking Priorities
Applicants should use the Common Grant Application, which is used by almost twenty other foundations in the Greater Philadelphia Area. It is the foundation’s goal to simplify the application process so that agency staff and volunteers can spend valuable time providing services and programs.
The following areas will receive priority consideration:
- General operating support, special program support, occasional capital needs, or technical assistance for the existing network of safety net providers serving the uninsured and underinsured with medical, dental, and mental health services.
- Programs to enhance the effectiveness of the Brandywine Center, enabling it to better serve the community.
- Efforts to provide information and outreach to the uninsured to promote their enrollment in CHIP, PACE, and pharmaceutical companies’ prescription assistance programs.
- Programs to positively impact the delivery of mental health services for low income residents, particularly adolescents and teens.
- Advocacy efforts with elected and appointed government officials for systems changes designed to increase insurance coverage through existing or new government funded programs, and to promote overall public health.
- Giving priority to funding those programs that include interpretation services for the Latino population.
- The Brandywine Health Foundation has limited funding available to reduce the need for emergency medical services, and/or to strengthen existing emergency services benefiting the residents of the Greater Coatesville Area.
Grant Guidelines
Since its inception in May of 2001, the Brandywine Health Foundation has distributed over $10 million in grants to non-profits, as well as nursing scholarships to individuals, to initiate and support programs meeting the foundation’s mission: to improve the health and well being of the residents of the Greater Coatesville Area.
The foundation seeks to be responsive to the needs of the community, and will consider proposals submitted by agencies with proven track records that are addressing one or more of the foundation’s funding priorities. Grantees must use the Common Grant Application used by almost twenty other foundations in the Greater Philadelphia Area. It is the foundation’s goal to simplify the application process so that agency staff and volunteers can spend valuable time providing services and programs.
The Directors have determined that all grant awards are subject to the vote of the full Board of Directors. It is not the intention of the Directors to establish an ongoing or permanent grant relationship with grantees. Applicants are encouraged to include a description of future funding plans for this project or service. With regard to types of grants and organizations supported, the
Directors, as a rule, will not make grant awards for:
- Direct scholarship support to individuals
- Coverage of operating deficits
- Document publication
- Pass through grant support for a third party (United Way and Rotary Club excepted)
- Groups such as fraternal organizations, political parties (or candidates), veterans, labor or local civic groups, and groups engaged in influencing legislation
